The Last Extinction Michael Scott Hanrahan Books Reviews

This was an enjoyable book but it took some time to "get into it". I like the ecological premise used in the book and the back story about humanity's place in the world. There was plenty of action as well that I enjoy along with a strong female "hero".
this book is a fast good read. It reaffirms the human race's ability to cause destruction of other live species. The story line kept me interested thru out the book. I read this book in two days, I had difficulty putting it aside.
My grandson is 12, I'm always trying to have him reading, instead of spending so much time on the Electronic; we enjoyed reading this together.
A really good story that dances so much around reality that it makes the story even more interesting. The entire "fiction" novel could almost be ripped from the headlines. I love a story that makes you think about how you can assist in the real world. great job!!!
The Last Extinction is a fast-moving, tension-filled environmental thriller that will leave readers pondering whether, like protagonist Christina Larson, we, too, are living in a real-life race to save the planet. Biologist Christina Larson finds herself pulled into a mythic and epic journey to save the last of six sacred species denoted in an ancient relic unearthed in the ian jungle. If she doesn't, it will mean the end of humanity as we know it. As she and her companions, photographer Dean Christiansen and Professor Jonathan Bailey, race around the globe, they are daunted by Nature's increasingly furious responses to man's destructive ways and the angry efforts of the ancient keepers of the mythic Wheel of Omagua. Will they be able to save the last species in time to prevent the destruction of humanity?
It was an entertaining read, but it had it's good points and bad points. There were times that I felt like I was reading a Michael Crichton novel, but there were other times that I thought I was watching a SyFi original. That's not to say that I don't like Syfi original. He did bring up some good points on how we are destroying our environment and killing off many species of wildlife and pushing them to extinction. I don't think that there are only five polar bears left in the world through. All around I thought that it was a readable story.
Truly an enhanced reading experience, as the animated illustrations deepen immersion in the story, while propelling one through a genuine page-turner (or, in this case, a page-swiper). The science is solid, and seamlessly integrated into the narrative, so it's not only a thrilling adventure, but also an educational primer on the global environmental realities of the day, e.g., the anthropogenic Sixth Mass Extinction. A bit like a Jurassic Park with embedded scenes from the movie, without dis-jointed pedantic passages on Chaos Theory, etc.

And importantly, the story is essentially told from the point of view of the animal world, under seige
by the ultimate destructive force on the planet, Homo sapiens. Highly recommended for pre-teens, teens and adults,
who want to enhance their understanding of our amazing and fragile natural world, while being elegantly entertained.
